Mayor
A Message from Mayor Parker
Hello. My name is Mike Parker. I am honored to be the Mayor of the City of Post Oak Bend, serving in that capacity since June 2023. Prior to that I served as a councilmember since 2019. I also served on the city council and as mayor of the City of Crandall before my wife and I moved to Post Oak Bend. I am a retired law enforcement officer of 32 years and I consider it a great privilege to serve the public.
As many of us know, Kaufman County is one of the fastest growing counties in the nation. With that growth comes a great deal of change. I consider it a priority to make sure that the inevitable changes that we experience are good for our city. Even as our little town grows, we face current challenges such as road and ditch maintenance, tree trimming and building regulation, to name a few. As a city of less than 800 people with only one part-time employee and very little revenue, these problems can be difficult to manage. So, I ask that you please bear with your city council and city administrator as we try to navigate these issues with the resources we have available.
Post Oak Bend is the largest city in Kaufman County that does not levy a tax on its residents. Your council has worked diligently to manage the city’s financial responsibilities with revenue from sales tax alone. We hope to maintain the status quo for as long as we possibly can. However, as our city continues to grow, and we receive increased traffic on our roads and streets, there may well come a day when an ad valorem tax will be necessary. It is my hope that this will be delayed as long as possible.
Thank you all for allowing me to serve as your mayor. Please reach out to me at mparker@postoakbend.org if I can be of service, or come to a council meeting on the second Tuesday at 7:00.
